I don't think you can "fry" a USB stick in the manner stated using dd, so I don't believe that your stick is damaged in any manner. It's pretty quick by thumb drive standards, and has been reliable until now. It would really bug me if this device is fried. If you have problems with TestDisk or bug reports, please contact me.
